Become a companion
We have a vision of training community to help their members stay at home, especially in remote areas.
These people are faced with many complex layers when needing help from medical teams.
We can assist with paperwork, legal aspects, palliative care and accessing support from the community.
Our approach will be to train the community to do this themselves, helping to build skills while empowering
them to claim back their traditional ways of caring for community members.
Right now, in areas across Australia, there are community members who cannot access medical treatments without travelling to larger centres. There are people who want to stay at home but need support to do so.
We offer training, education and support to show these communities what they can do, what it possible and how to navigate the complex world of government funded systems.
We are here to help navigate the pathway during an expected, natural death. We want to encourage this to be seen as a sacred time, a rite of passage and one that does not require emergency medical intervention. Instead it is something a community could be involved in, bear witness to and honour those members of their village.
NODA Australia delivers training to doulas, showing them what it takes to vigil with someone who is dying.
This can then be used to help others to know what to expect when someone dies.
Every life is different, every death is different and every community is different.
We are doulas, doulas are of service.
To do this we will be asking communities what is needed then find ways of delivering that to the people.
A doula in your area will have access to the board and the trained companions as a pool of resources and specialised knowledge.
This is how No One Dies Alone in Australia.
In order to fulfil this bold vision we need community leaders.
We will be strictly vetting anyone who wishes to complete this training so as to ensure compliance with regulations from government departments, health care departments and aged care providers.
If you feel you are ready to be part of this then please read on for more details.
